This one came about in a very strange way... There was a challenge posted on the FAWM website to write the theme song for a made-up video game. I haven't messed around with synthesizers in a while, so I booted up this really cool program called Audulus - it's a visual programming environment that allows you to build your own synthesizers from the ground up. (It's only $15 on the Mac app store, and you can get it for your iPhone or your Windows laptop, too - I recommend getting a copy if you have the means. And no, they're not paying me to say that.) So, I started reproducing the sounds I remember from the old Gameboy games - 16 bit synths, sort of a chiptune thing... Except I don't really know anything about chiptune or game music, so what actually came out was a sortof 90s slow jam R&B kind of thing. So I said to heck with it, embraced that aesthetic, and that's where the tune came from. I'm sure that somebody who knows more about synthesizers and mixing could bring a lot more power to the mix, but it's a decent rough draft. FAWM 2015: 2 down, 12 to go! Don't Look Down Lately, baby, you been actin’ like I ain’t enough Been complainin’ that I ain’t the man you thought I was Keep me guessin’ if you maybe fallin’ out of love… Put yourself so high, there you gonna stay Beat me down so low I got to crawl away… Baby, while you’re up there, I gotta say… Don’t look down Don’t look now, but you lost it all Don’t look down – you’ll be starin’ at your feet When the sky falls… When I met you, you were broke down so low Breakin’ boulders at the bottom – you had nowhere to go. I picked you up, took you home, and I lightened your load… Now you’re looking at me like you’re above me That ain’t no way to treat me if you love me Lookin’ down on me… well, baby I gotta say Don’t look down Don’t look now, but you lost it all Don’t look down – you’ll be starin’ at your feet When the sky falls… Ads by Google AdSense
